More Yin Yang Cats

September 6, 2007

I’m doing a series of yin-yang cats for a T-shirt.  The next step will be a larger “whole cats” drawing!

Other black and white art:  I finished sewing both pieces of this autumn outfit - the ankle-length jumper is Japanese cotton dobby cloth in charcoal printed with litte gray birds.  Buttons are made from a big catfish bone that I found in western Kentucky several years ago.  Underneath is basically a muslin nightgown with ruffles at the collar, sleeves, and hem - the long length looks better than a shirt.

Clouds from Mexico’s hurricane arrived yesterday evening, along with the faint smell of the ocean that we sometimes get with these September storms - it’s always a wonderful surprise in the desert.  This morning we awoke to a steady, gentle rain that continued for a couple of hours and left the air feeling cool and soft.  Green shoots are ripening into fruits and seedpods.  Young tree roots and branches are thickening, bark is forming, and growth slows as the equinox approaches.

I especially like the drawing of the cats’ faces. It is interesting how your creativity spills over into many media, Lorena. The buttons from a catfish bone are a very original touch. And the rain sounds lovely. We’ve had a much hotter Summer than usual this year, and could use a gentle, soaking rain.

I *really* like the Y/Y cat paws! Perhaps you could do something with doggie feet?

    If not, no problem. Woof!

    These cats looks so beautiful!
Somewhat syncronistic perhaps, but just 2 hours ago I stopped to watch my 3 cats asleep on the porch and two of them were curled just like the ones you have drawn. I actually thought about your earlier drawing of yin-yang cats when I stood there admiring my cats!

My 1-year-old cat has been rather unwell for a week now. He may eventually lose his tail (or half of it..) He´s now on antibiotics & the vet will see him in about a week to decide about the tail.. The poor cat was out in the garden one night ( he did not want to come in for the night) and there was a wild raccoon dog in the garden. Apparently it attacked the poor cat. Our dog chased the raccoon dog away later.(raccoon dog is very much like the raccoon in America, but it is a different species)
